GTA 6 map size: what is confirmedand what is not

Rockstar has not published a map size for Grand Theft Auto VI in square miles or kilometres. Confirmed What exists are relative comparisons that outlets attribute to Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson, saying the map is about twice GTA 5's and about three times Red Dead Redemption 2's. What Rockstar's own pages say

Rockstar's official site and its Only in Leonida pages name a setting, not a size. The setting is the fictional state of Leonida, with Vice City at its centre, and six regions: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga. Confirmed No page we opened gives an area, a driving time or a comparison. Rockstar's own August 2026 interviews, as carried by Dazed, discuss research and scale of the team, and Dazed's piece gives no measurements either. Confirmed

What press attribute to Rockstar staff

After the August 27, 2026 Extended Look, preview coverage quoted Nelson in creator interviews and press previews. These are relative claims, and we only read them second-hand.

We could not open the New York Times piece or the creator videos, so we did not verify the wording. Headlines that say "officially confirmed" refer to these spoken comparisons, not to a published figure. Nelson is also reported as saying it is "a very big map" with rewards for exploring.

Fan estimates

Some fans and sites turn the comparisons into square miles. Those figures start from GTA 5's or Red Dead 2's community-measured area, then multiply. GAMINGbible, for example, multiplies a roughly 29 square mile Red Dead 2 figure by three to reach about 87 square miles. Estimate That is the outlet's arithmetic. It is not a Rockstar number, and neither is the 29 square miles it starts from. We could not find an officially published area for GTA 5 or Red Dead 2 either, so we do not give a mile comparison of our own. We do not link to leaked maps.

What we do not know

• The area of the map in any unit.
• How much of it is land, water or built up.
• Whether every region is open on day one.
• How long it takes to cross by car, boat or air.
