The short answer
There are no official GTA 6 display settings yet, so there is no "best" setting for the game. Rockstar has not said whether it supports HDR, 120 Hz or VRR, and neither store listing shows a resolution or frame rate. Confirmed What you can do now is set up your console and TV so that every feature is available when the game arrives on November 19, 2026.
PS5 settings to check
All paths below are from PlayStation's support pages. Unconfirmed
Prepare a PS5
- Open Settings, Screen and Video, Video Output. Select Video Output Information to see what your TV reports for resolution, VRR and HDR.
- Set Resolution to Automatic so the console picks the highest your TV supports.
- Turn on HDR and choose Always On or On When Supported. Always On converts non-HDR games to HDR output.
- Select Adjust HDR and follow the prompts.
- Turn on VRR. The Apply to Unsupported Games option can steady frame rates in games without native VRR.
- Turn on 120 Hz Output if your TV supports it.
- Leave ALLM on Automatic. PlayStation says ALLM stays active with VRR even if set to Off.
- Use the HDMI cable in the box, or an Ultra High Speed HDMI 2.1 cable, for 4K at 120 Hz.
PlayStation's Pro page says the PS5 Pro supports 60 Hz and 120 Hz displays. Confirmed Whether GTA 6 uses 120 Hz is unknown.
Xbox Series X|S settings to check
Xbox's TV guide points to these menus. Unconfirmed
- Check the TV: Settings, General, TV and Display Options, 4K TV details. Green checks show what your TV supports.
- Refresh rate: under TV and Display Options. Some TVs reach 120 Hz only at certain resolutions or on certain HDMI ports.
- ALLM, VRR and Auto HDR: the guide names all three as Series X|S features. Advanced ones need an HDMI 2.1 connection.
- HDR: look for a "Calibrate HDR for games" option in the same menu. We saw this path in search results but did not open a Microsoft page for it, so confirm on your console. Unconfirmed
Microsoft lists Series X at up to 120 fps in supported content, and Series S at a 1440p target. Unconfirmed Neither number says what GTA 6 will do.
TV maker settings
| Brand | What the official page says |
|---|---|
| LG | Open All Settings, General, Game Optimizer. ALLM can be toggled there. Some picture controls lock while it is on |
| Samsung | Game Mode turns on by itself when it detects a console. Use the HDMI port marked with the game icon for 4K at 120 Hz. Input Signal Plus sits under Connection, External Device Manager |
LG and Samsung both document these steps for their TVs. Unconfirmed Menu names differ by model and year, so check your manual. We did not open a Sony support page, so we give no Sony steps.
A calm launch-week routine
Do this before November 19
If a feature looks wrong in a test game, turn it off and test again. Do not tune for GTA 6 until its modes are known. Estimate
